The voting is currently underway for the 2022 Gustave Trouvé Awards for Excellence in Electric Boats and Boating (“The Gussies”), presented by PlugBoats.com. The Gussies consist of 6 categories, such as Electric Sailboats, Workboats, and more. The finalists have been chosen by a 19 person panel comprised of experts from electric boating associations from around the world, as well as winners from the first two Gussies awards in 2020 and 2021.
Vision Marine Technologies’ (NASDAQ: VMAR) fully electric V32 HellKat widebody 32” catamaran has been nominated for World’s Best Customized/DIY Electric Boat. If you are not yet familiarized with the revolutionary V32, it is the first ever fully electric speedboat to hit the waterways. The vessel was designed from the ground up by Vision Marine, in collaboration with its eventual captain, current F1H2O World Champion Shaun Torrente and his Shaun Torrente Racing (“STR”) team.
About the V32
The V32 debuted at the August 2022 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, in which Torrente reached a stunning 109 mph, shattering and setting the world electric boat speed record. The V32 was equipped with a twin application of Vision Marine’s groundbreaking fully electric E-Motion™ 180E (180 hp) outboard motor and powertrain system, which is the most powerful and innovative electric propulsion system available to OEMs. The twin 180Es were fitted with two high density, lightweight batteries custom designed in partnership with Octillion Power Systems. Additionally, boat racing industry legends Weismann Marine custom engineered the lower units for the V32, which was incredibly important in accommodating the high torque generated by the E-Motion™ outboard technology. Furthermore, the V32 is a United States Coast Guard and CE (Conformité Européenne) certified vessel.
An homage to Rey Marino
The V32 HellKat honors the memory of recently deceased Rey Marino, founder of HellKat Powerboats. Marino sadly passed away during the production of HellKat Catamaran Hull, and was an integral part in the early stages of bringing this vessel to life.
